There are many reasons a person’s nose becomes congested. Among the irritants are perfume, smoke-filled rooms and even some foodstuffs. The resulting cold or flu is a result to a person’s response to these harmful elements. The onset of fever is the body’s way to fight disease and a person who wants to remedy this will drink certain medications to speed up the healing process.

However, it is also important for sick people to drain sinuses that cause blockage because these will be removed, so they can breathe more freely. Incidentally, when the sinus is blocked the immune system will release chemicals called histamines that will fight different germs that invaded one’s body. For this reason, one should refrain from taking anti-histamines that would dry up the mucous membrane.

Before people can drain sinuses that will bring them relief they have to address first the cause of their nasal congestion. First, they have to stay away from people who wear perfumes that may irritate their noses or stay away from places that are filled with smoke.

It would also be a good idea to keep their distance from people who are sick themselves with cough or colds and washing their hands to avoid being infected themselves. Also, snow and rain can make their condition worse, so they have to be well-protected to avoid their immune systems to overwork themselves. In regard to the immune system and in order to drain sinuses, people should drink herbal teas like lemon, ginger, and mint so these will energize the immune system.

Another practical way to remove any form of congestion would be inhaling steam whether one is immersed in a hot shower, or eating a delicious steamed soup.
